About this worksheet

Nine adjectives sort into three columns headed Looks, Feels and Sounds, each marked with an eye, a hand and an ear. The words are shiny, bumpy, loud, fuzzy, colorful, quiet, buzzing, smooth and spotted.

The columns come out even at three words each, which means a child who has placed six correctly can reason their way to the last three. That built-in check is deliberate and it makes this a good page to give a child working alone. The sorting frame also does something a fill-in-the-blank page cannot: it makes the point that adjectives come from somewhere, that describing words are the record of what a body noticed.

What students will practice

  • Sort adjectives by the sense that notices them
  • Connect describing words to seeing, touching and hearing
  • Copy each word into the right column
