About this worksheet

Eight sentences, each with a picture sitting beside it: a red balloon, a striped zebra, a green frog, a yellow lemon, a spotted puppy, purple grapes, an orange fish and a blue sky. The word bank holds ten choices and a child writes the one that fits.

The bank mixes colors with patterns on purpose, so striped and spotted sit next to red and blue. That matters more than it looks, because a child who has only ever been asked for colors will reach for a color on the zebra line and have to stop when none of them are right. Two words go unused, which keeps the last few lines honest.

What students will practice

  • Read a picture and name what describes it
  • Use color and pattern words as adjectives
  • Choose from a bank with words left over
