About this worksheet

Six pictures down the left and six adjectives down the right, joined by a pencil line: a woolly sheep, a cactus, a beach ball, a dripping honey jar, a star and a girl with long curls. The words are shiny, curly, prickly, sticky, fluffy and round.

Every word here is a texture or a shape rather than a color, which is the reason to reach for this page. Color words are the easy on-ramp to adjectives and children pick them up first, so a sheet with no colors on it at all pushes into the vocabulary that usually gets skipped. It is the quickest sheet in the set, and it works well as a warm-up before one of the writing pages.

What students will practice

  • Join a picture to the adjective that describes it
  • Read six describing words with no sentence around them
  • Work with texture words like prickly and fluffy
