About this worksheet

Six sentences down the left with a picture beside each, six words in boxes down the right, and a dot on both sides to join with a line. I have a bat, you have a map, Ted has a hat, Ann has a doll, the cat has a mat, Ted and Ann have a dog.

There are exactly six words for six sentences, so every one is used once and a child can close in on the last couple by working out what is left. That makes it the gentlest sheet in the set for a child who is still shaky: the hard cases, its for the cat and their for two people, are the ones elimination rescues.

No writing at all, just lines, so it suits a child whose handwriting would otherwise be the slow part. It takes about ten minutes and it works well as the warm-up before a sheet that asks for written answers.

What students will practice

  • Match a sentence to the possessive adjective it needs
  • Work through six options by elimination
  • Read short sentences with picture support
