A mint polka-dot border with two frogs on a log, and eight numbered prompts each followed by three blanks: hop, bug, pen, sad, pig, run, cap and net.
The gentlest of the three write-your-own pages. Every prompt is a three-letter short-vowel word with a deep family behind it, so a child who gets stuck can be nudged with “try the alphabet: b, c, d …” and will usually find three within a few letters. Sad is the thinnest family on the page, with bad, dad, had, lad, mad and pad, and even that is plenty.
