About this worksheet
Sofia Reyes writes to Principal Rivera asking for a buddy bench on the playground, a spot where a lonely child can sit and get invited into a game. She gives her reasons, mentions the new girl who stood by the fence all recess, and heads off the cost question with a bake sale before anyone can raise it.
The fact or opinion table is the heart of the sheet, and it is trickier than it looks, because two of the opinions sound like facts when Sofia states them so confidently. Question four is the real fourth grade step. It asks a child to find the objection the letter answers, which means reading the letter as an argument rather than a story.
