About this worksheet
Peanut the class hamster is missing on Monday morning, and Ava, who loves mysteries, pulls out a magnifying glass. A trail of sunflower seed shells leads across the room to the bookshelf, where a crunching sound gives him away. The play has a cast list, a setting box and stage directions in italics, just like a real script.
Fourth grade is when children are expected to talk about plays in their own terms, and this sheet covers the basics: where and when it happens, copying out a stage direction, and naming two ways a play differs from a story. It works well read aloud in parts, and there are exactly four roles.
