About this worksheet
The Storm Comes Calling follows a storm from the wind knocking at the door to clouds rolling in like heavy ships, thunder grumbling like a bear, and the storm tiptoeing off to leave a rainbow. Four stanzas of four lines, with a steady rhyme that makes it good for reading aloud twice, as the directions ask.
The questions cover the poetry vocabulary fourth graders are expected to use: stanzas and lines, a rhyming pair, copying out a simile, and explaining why the poet makes the wind act like a person. The last question asks how the mood changes in the final stanza, using words from the poem, which is where the strongest readers will shine.
