About this worksheet

The passage covers a frog from egg to tadpole to frog, plus the long back legs for jumping and the sticky tongue for catching bugs. Five sentences underneath have a word missing from each, and a word bank across the top holds exactly five words, so every word gets used once and none is left over.

That one to one match is what makes this the gentlest sheet in the set on writing. A child who understood the passage but finds spelling slow can still finish it, because the words are all there to copy. It is a good place to start a reader who freezes at blank lines, and a good place to go back to on a day when a longer sheet would be a fight. The circle task at the bottom asks which two pictures show a frog growing up, and the fish is there on purpose, since the passage says a tadpole swims like one.

What students will practice

  • Fill five blanks using a five word bank
  • Match a fact in the passage to the sentence that needs it
  • Pick out the two pictures that show a frog growing up
