Sunflowers: Grade 2 Nonfiction Reading Worksheet
About this worksheet
A short nonfiction passage about sunflowers: how tall they grow, why young ones turn their heads to follow the sun, and what is packed into the dark middle of the flower. Three tasks follow, and each one asks the child to go back to the passage a different way.
The true and false statements are deliberately mixed, so two are right and two are wrong and a child cannot get through by checking the same box four times. The last task is the useful one for a reader who is still slow with a pencil: four animals are pictured and only two of them are named in the passage as seed eaters, so the child proves they understood without having to write a word. A child who circles the frog has guessed rather than read, which tells you something worth knowing.
