About this worksheet

Fourteen farm sentences with a barn at the top and a chick and sunflower at the foot. The rooster crows at sunrise but the farm dogs bark at the gate, a bee buzzes near the flowers but the kittens hide in the barn. The instruction states the test outright: is the subject one, or more than one?

Print this one first and the sixteen-item sheet second. The subjects here are almost all concrete animals and people a child can literally count, so the one-or-more-than-one question has a visible answer, where the other sheet leans on pronouns and names. Buzzes and splashes are the two that take -es rather than -s.

What students will practice

  • Ask whether the subject is one or more than one
  • Choose between crow and crows, buzz and buzzes
  • Write the matching verb on the line
