About this worksheet

Two jobs on one page. First circle the verbs in a box of fifteen words: giggle, march, stir, sweep, hop, whisper, climb, wash, catch and listen are actions, while ladder, window, basket, pillow and wagon are not. Then use those ten to finish ten sentences, from stirring soup with a wooden spoon to catching the ball at the game.

The two halves check each other, which is what makes this the strongest sheet in the set. Every circled verb is used exactly once below, so a child who circled a noun by mistake runs out of words before they run out of sentences, and the error surfaces on its own without anyone marking the page.

What students will practice

  • Sort verbs from nouns in a mixed word box
  • Choose the verb that fits the sentence
  • Use each verb exactly once
